Our Story

Father & Son

Giacomo and Phillip Sgroi - Father & son co-owners and native Sicilians open Nonna Sulina's in tribute to Giacomo's maternal grandmother. Chef Giacomo grew up in Carini, Sicily, spending much of his youth in the kitchen with his nonna or scuba diving for fresh seafood for his father's coastal restaurant "Trattoria Pescatore." His "nonna" Sulina took him to pick fresh figs from their family garden, taught him how to sun-dry tomatoes, and how to respect the importance of ingredients. Cooking is a passion with deep roots in the Sgroi family that transcend into the food they make. Nonna Sulina's is the culmination of a chef's lifelong dream and vision; to share traditional Sicilian cuisine with an inventive twist.
